Annual Meeting (May 2, 2019)

MANY THANKS TO ALL WHO JOINED US FOR A WONDERFUL EVENT!

The 2019 Annual Meeting was held on Thursday, May 2nd at the Board of Child Care’s (BCC) Baltimore campus. Also, the meeting was televised to the West Virginia Campus.

Auxiliary President Sue Everhart welcomed auxiliary guests and friends of BCC.

Laurie Anne Spagnola, MSW, President, and CEO presented on the new changes within the agency and how the Auxiliary has helped to support BCC’s Programs across the Mid-Atlantic.

Kelly Berger, LCSW-C Vice President of Special Operations provided a general overview of Positive Behavioral Intervention Supports (PBIS) PBIS – what it is, how it works and the reasons why BCC has chosen to use it as a framework for programming agency-wide – in both educational and residential programs in MD, as well as in WV and PA.

Jaclyn Blachly, M.Ed., BCBA, LBA, Director of Behavior and Related Services connected (PBIS) to the outcomes of improving the social, emotional and academic outcomes for students at Strawbridge School.

There was a special recognition service for an auxiliary member Alice Chesler. She was honored with a leaf on the Tree of Life by Centenary UMC for over 50 years of service to the Board of Child Care and the Auxiliary.

The major business of the meeting included a vote to ratify the revised Constitution which was passed by majority vote.

Breezeway Market by the Strawbridge School sold over one thousand dollars in hand crafted merchandise!

Be Honest

As we close out our week with an emphasis on our second BCC core value, integrity, I would like to share a prayer attributed to the Cherokee tradition:

Oh, Great Spirit,
Help me always to speak the truth quietly,

to listen with an open mind when others speak,
and to remember the peace that may be found in silence.

Continue to be kind to yourself and to others.  These 40 days are going by quickly.  I encourage us all to be intentional each day to make positive actions and positive thoughts our way of living and being.
May a sense of God’s peace be with you and may we share it with one another.
Rev. Stacey

A True Christmas Giving Story

Alexander is pictured very excitedly holding one of the items.

Alexander and Russell know the true meaning of Christmas is giving instead of receiving. For their birthday this year, the twins decided to donate their gifts to the children of the Board of Child Care.

They collected items for the BCC’s Christmas Store. Each year we set up a room filled with housewares, jewelry and gift baskets where children and their families can shop for loved ones at no cost. The Christmas Store is one of the many generous projects sponsored by our Volunteer Auxiliary.

To no surprise, Alexander and Russel’s gifts were grabbed up immediately as the store opened. The Denton boys are grateful to have a loving and supportive community.

Russell was very shy and did not really want recognition or his picture taken.

The Children’s Choir of South Korea is an organization of children grades 3rd – 8th travels giving hope and joy to many people throughout their mission tours. The Board of Child Care had the privilege to host these young and talented students at our 2017 Annual Spring Auxiliary Meeting.

There was not a dry eye in the audience after the children sang “Jesus Loves Me” and then proceeded to hug each person in the meeting. Please enjoy photos from the event on our Facebook Page. Click here to see a video.

Give a Tic Program was a success!

The program was designed to help raise money for batteries for donated watches so that they could be used in the Christmas Store.
