Many of our youth are constantly working through many challenges in their daily life. The role of our staff is very important in making sure that they are supporting our youth in the most trauma informed way. Zach is a Child Care Worker for our Caminos program. He has been seen on numerous occasions taking the time out to make our Caminos residents feel valued by listening to them, attending to their needs, and engaging with them through fun activities like playing board games. Ensuring that our residents are receiving the best possible care while at BCC contributes to our organization’s purpose. Zach I am very grateful for your supportive and therapeutic approach to your work. Congratulations.

Abbey is one of our treatment support specialist at the West Virginia Campus. She works very closely with many of our youth. She is very supportive and dedicated to helping youth work through their issues. Recently, one of them was having a hard time dealing with a trauma that he experienced as a child. Abbey was driven to figure out the best way to support him in his time of need. She did not hesitate to seek guidance to ensure that the youth was receiving the most appropriate treatment. Her ability to show empathy towards this youth made it easier for him to communicate with her, which helped create an open space of communication to process his thoughts.

Abbey, I thank you so much for being attuned to the needs of our youth. Congratulations!

Tayler Baker is a therapist at our Falling Waters campus. She works very closely with many of our youth and has shown herself to be a supportive role in their lives. Recently, a youth was struggling to cope after receiving news that his grandmother, who happens to be his closest relative, was in the hospital with rapidly failing health.  Tayler made herself emotionally available to help the youth process and she immediately tried to figure out a solution that would allow the youth to be transported to the hospital that was 6 hours away to visit. Unfortunately, the youth was not able to make it time before their grandmother passed. However, Tayler rearranged her schedule to take him to an overnight visit with his grandmother’s fiancé. This allowed the youth to share a moment with his family and have some closure with his grandmother’s death.

Tayler, your willingness to put the youth and his needs first during this time is appreciated. Thank you for showing empathy and being attuned to the needs of our youth. Congratulations!
